What affects garden clearance costs?
A clearance quote should separate labour from collection and disposal. A low price that leaves all the cuttings behind is not comparable with a price that includes taking them away.
Compare quotes on the same basis: the work, total price, materials, waste and timing. An hourly rate alone does not tell you the final cost.

Booking a clearance before a sale or move
Give the inspection, photography or handover deadline, along with the dates when the garden can be accessed. A same-week request is welcome, but the provider must confirm the appointment and scope. Photos can start a quotation; hidden ground, mixed rubbish or difficult access may require a visit before a fixed price is possible.
Hourly, daily and load prices need different checks
An hourly or day rate should state the number of people, the time included and whether loading or disposal uses that time. A load price needs a volume or weight allowance. Ask for a fixed scope or a clear limit and approval process for extras. No standard number of bags is included unless the quotation says so.
A shed or furniture needs explicit agreement
Cutting shrubs, removing an old chair and dismantling a shed are different activities. Identify every non-green item and mark structures to keep. Do not assume demolition, hazardous material or specialist removal is included in clearance. Ask the provider which work they can undertake and how the resulting materials will be separated and removed.
Check the collector before material leaves
Use the relevant national waste-carrier register linked in GOV.UK’s guidance when arranging private household-waste removal. Match the collector’s business identity to the quotation, and keep the removal agreement. A gardening quote should explain the appropriate route for its waste; a household bin or recycling-centre pass is not automatic authorisation for a contractor.

How much does garden clearance cost?
There is no fixed national price for garden clearance. The gardener sets the quote after reviewing your job. The main factors are area and density of vegetation, cutting work versus material already piled up, vehicle access and distance to the loading point and volume and type of waste leaving the property. Ask for the scope, materials and disposal charges to be clear before you book.
What does garden clearance include?
Typical garden clearance can include weeds, cut vegetation, branches, dead plants and general green waste. Soil, rubble, old furniture, sheds or other bulky waste may require separate arrangements. Describe everything that needs clearing so providers can state clearly what their quote includes.
How long does garden clearance take?
A small clearance may take only a few hours, while a heavily overgrown garden can take a full day or longer. Garden size, access, vegetation, cutting required and waste removal all affect the time. The best estimate comes from providers after they understand the scope of the job.
Is garden waste removal included in garden clearance?
Not necessarily. Some clearance providers include loading, transport and disposal in one price, while others quote waste removal separately. Ask for the quote to state exactly what happens to the waste so you can compare providers on the same basis.
Can gardeners remove rubbish and old furniture?
Some providers may remove mixed or bulky waste as part of a clearance, but it should not be assumed. Old furniture, rubble, soil, sheds and non-green waste may require different disposal arrangements. List these items in your request so only providers able to handle them quote for the job.
What is the difference between garden clearance and garden waste removal?
Clearance can include cutting unwanted vegetation, gathering material and making an area accessible. Waste removal collects material that is already ready to load unless additional work is agreed. If you need both cutting and removal, request them together and ask the quote to define each part.
Do I need a waste carrier for garden waste?
When hiring a private household-waste collector, use the relevant national waste-carrier register linked in GOV.UK’s guidance and check the collector’s identity. Ask your gardening provider to explain who will transport the waste and its disposal route. A garden-service advertisement does not by itself confirm appropriate registration.
